Over the past twenty years, horse training has seen a dramatic shift from "breaking" a horse to communicating with him through some form of "natural horsemanship", and though the training methods changed, there still seemed to be something missing. That something is how the rider's body position, emotions and energy are also communicated to the horse. To help equine enthusiasts learn more about this exciting and effective form of equine/rider communication, the Whitewater Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Association is hosting an open Centered Riding Clinic in Salmon, Idaho at their equine facility.
The three-day clinic, May 21,22,23, 2010 is taught by Elaine Meredith Steele, a Level IV Centered Riding instructor from Washington State (www.trinergy.net) and is open to riders of all skills and disciplines. For more information about Elaine click on the link below to read her biography.
Group and individual lessons are available and auditors are welcome. The clinic is limited to 10 participants. Registration deadline is April 1st, 2010. There is a $500.00 fee for riders and $20.00 per day to audit. Auditors may participate in some of the unmounted activities.
Centered Riding, developed by Sally Swift, teaches riders how to help their body do what it needs to do in order to ride well. Centered Riding techniques help promote suppleness, stability, and communicate with clearer aids, making riding more comfortable for both horse and rider. As you learn and experience the principles through your's motion and responses, you and your horse tune in to each other to work together in harmony. These techniques can increase confidence and injoyment and release tension in horses and riders, making training easier and riding more enjoyable. They also help people cope with old injuries or chronic conditions that cause pain during or after riding.
Centered Riding is used successfully by riders and instructors of all ages, interests and levels from pleasure riders to international competitors, and in therapeutic riding. It can be applied to any type of horse or horsemanship. Most of all, it makes riding more enjoyable for horses and riders.
