Whitewater Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Association, founded in 1994, is dedicated to providing therapeutic, recreational and educational equine assisted activities for individuals with disabilities, youth-at-risk, abused and neglected children and the elderly.
Our 2010 Saddle Up with WTRRA sponsorship campaign provides a means for individuals to contribute to WTRRA and support the mission.
Community donations provide WTRRA with much-needed funds for program implementation, instructor training, horse care, insurance, facility development, upkeep and operations. Evidence of community support is valuable as the association approaches foundations for grants. Donations will also help the association develop a high quality equine facility for use by youth groups, community events and the promotion of equine activities within the region.
WTRRA invites people to ride in the arena without a designated cost or required membership. Based on the past community support, WTRRA Board of Directors anticipates that individuals who regularly use the arena will donate at a level which will help the non-profit pay for utilities, insurance, on-going maintenance and improvements.
WTRRA began providing services in 1994 at what was then the Deloy Newman arena on Highway 28, later at the fairgrounds, at the hockey rink during the summer and finally to its own arena on Cemetery Lane. Through the past 15 years, WTRRA benefited from significant grants awarded by the Steele-Reese Foundation, M.J. Murdoch Foundation, CHC, Idaho Community Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.
However, the real success of Whitewater Therapeutic and Recreational Riding is attributed to the support of an amazing volunteer base, in-kind and financial support of Lemhi and Custer Counties, Rich Rodgers Ride-a-Thon, truck raffle and the more recent marathon.
Joyce Scott, Executive Director, is pleased to announce the opening of the arena to the public and the beginning of equine assisted activities and 4-H programs at the facility.
WTRRA membership is not a requirement for public use of the arena. WTRRA anticipates that people who use the arena frequently will donate at a level, which will help pay insurance, utilities, and maintenance. Your financial support helps WTRRA provide quality equine assisted activities for individuals with disabilities, youth-at-risk, abused and neglected children and the elderly residing in Lemhi and Custer counties.
